Case Studies - Port Vale Football Cub: Bottom Driven Piles

At the beginning of December 2005 we were asked to install 10no. 220mm driven steel cased piles at Port Vale FC, Stoke-on-Trent. The piles were installed to provide a base for a new lighting tower.

The major problem with this site was the access to the working area inside the stadium which could only be reached by crane.

The T1000 piling rig, ideal for this as it has no separate generator, was lifted over the stadium wall and into it's working position.

Ten 220mm diam piles were then driven to depths of up to 14 metres on a steep slope. Once installed the ground level was reduced and the piles cut down.

A concrete boom pump was used in order to lift the concrete over the stadium wall, the piles were filled and reinforced starter bars placed in the top of the pile.
