Case Studies - Talina Builders: Soil Nailing in Hastings

MK Piling North West Limited has just successfully completed an unusual and complex Anchor Pile Project in East Sussex.

Soil Nailing
The Reason For Soil Nails

The first problem encountered was to establish the plant and machinery up a 20 metre cliff face. Mats were used to provide a suitable means to transport the A50 ton crane over the pebble beach to the set up area at the base of the cliff face.

The lifting capacity was restricted to 3 tonnes on plant and equipment. Ischebeck Titan self drill 30/16 Black Anchor Piles (yield load 190 kN) were installed using rotary percussive method ensuring a higher rate of production combined with good directional stability if obstructions were encountered.

A restricted benching area was a further complication and a three tier bench system was adopted. The same safe systems of work were utilised to de-mobilise the site. It is proposed that a contemporary timber framed house will be constructed with a terrace and decking area taking advantage of the stunning cliff face vista.
The original contract programme was anticipated to be two weeks however MK Piling managed to complete the contract within one week enabling the main contractor Talina Builders to progress their works earlier than scheduled. A successful contract for all parties.
